When did it start?

I’ve been gathering materials for this project since 2019, beginning with the inherited teddy bear fabrics and embroidered cloth from my gramma, and the needlepoint thread from my grandad.

The scroll started to take from beginning in 2022 when I helped my brother-in-law setup a gym in his garage. I saved a 2’x60’ length of brown packing paper and began to glue and ply it with smaller lengths of brown packing paper and tissue paper.

More long lengths of brown paper were mailed to me by friends and family, and the scroll continued to grow.

I began sewing in the materials I inherited from my gramma

In 2024 I began strengthening the edges of the scroll with a layer of folded colourful cardstock, a gift from my mother-in-law Susann.

In 2025 I decorated the edged of the scroll by sewing in a criss-cross pattern with my grandads needlepoint thread. I also glued in maps from provinces across Canada, a gift from my parents, Rick and Barb, from their travel adventures.

What is it for?

I think scrolls are great, and I think it’s great how silly this scroll has become.

I invite people to add to it following a performance of the Spiralling Towards Centre storybook.

Allowing a story to emerge from community contribution, in a unfocused way to find a story through sharing a story.

I also think it looks really funny and fun to carry around on my back.
